Day TWENTY NINE
Apart from Munich, Pisa was the first city we had stayed in where we were totally by ourselves, and argument free. It was nice. Most of you reading this will know that Tyler and I were together for a few years, and then we went on this trip as two single friends travelling together. If you didn't know that then you're probably surprised, and rightly so - not gonna lie, it wasn't the easiest thing to do. But there was something about Pisa that really made me feel calm and happy to be in Italy. After the tackiness of Venice, and before the *spoiler alert* shadiness of Rome, Pisa felt like a welcome rest.
Most of these photos are self explanatory, a few cheesy posing ones for a laugh - mostly candid ones of Tyler, and the ones of me laboriously begged into existence. Ever heard of the Instagram Husband? I pity the fool.
While looking for gelato (found it, delicious) we actually came across a live excavation site, and on coming closer, found that the bones being dug up were human. What?! I get a quick few photos before anyone could comment on my bad taste. I wonder who the mysterious person was and from which era they came.
_________
We left the hostel (can't actually remember what it was like...) and found this historic ruin on the way to the centre of town.
.
We then walked to the Cittadella di Pisa, a thirteenth century defensive fortification that was bombed badly in WWII
.
.
The Arno river runs through the middle of the city, and this tower and arched brick walls were built to defend against river attacks from the sea. We crossed the river and walked back up the other side. What I didn't realise at the time is that the Arno river is the second most important River in Italy after the Tiber, and that when we would visit Florence, we would see the same river there again.
.
.
And after getting our gelato we found a dead human body. Just your typical day in Tuscany.
.
next: Pisa | Torre pendente di Pisa | Day 30
Lovely photos Gamel. I hope you go back to Pisa. L-A xx
